Hi i’ve been asked to do a family wedding, as I have never really done a wedding on my own before I am a little apprehensive as to do it. the couple are happy for me to do it still.
I have just recently bought a Nikon d300s also got a Nikon d3100, The lenses i have are the Tamron sp 70-300, Tamron 18-200 macro zoom and also the standard Nikon 18-55 all coupled with a Nikon sb900 flash. what I would like to know is this going to be good enough for most shots ? and how to utilize all equipment

@MrRgx521 save up for the gear, work / shadow people for free to get experience, then start charging.

I guess what I’m asking really, is:

How do I go about accumulating the experience and gear I need when I don’t really have either of them for the gigs that would allow me to get them?

  6. MrRgx521 says:

Here’s one of my big dilemmas:
If I’m going to charge people for taking their pictures, I believe that I’m entering territory where “Sorry, got no lense fast enough for this shot and my cam sucks at high iso” just doesn’t cut it. So I need to get a modern body (my current one is from 2007, a 40D) and some fast lenses, reliable powerful flashes (as in, not the Nissin Di622 / Yongnuo stuff I’m currently using) and so on. That stuff alone easily goes into the thousands – _before_ I’m making money.

I think the nikon 16-35mm b handyr than the 14-24 its lighter to movew around along with the 24-70 and 7-200 and sometimes one of the portrait g 50mm lens 1.8g

@MichaelGteam good luck with it. As I have said in other videos – more important than gear is training/practice/experience. Make sure you have those in order before you take on any solo weddings.

Ciao Matt! Great video series, thanks for sharing your experience with all of us. I am pursuing photography as a second wait .third .wait .forth job. Babies can really put us in it ;) Anyway, I was planning on starting out with a Nikon d7000 with a couple wide range lenses (18-105)(55-300) giving me needed versatility on the site. I will lack much of the equipment you are shown to use but my background is multimedia and design so I rely heavily on my superior post effects and editing skills.

I also use the Lowepro S&F Lens Exchanger 200 aw to switch between the canon 17-55 2.8 s and the 70-200 2.8 is ii on a canon 50d body. I use a 2 spedlight setup and a 85 1.8 for when I want to work lightweight. When I need to shoot extrawide I use a canon 10-22. Cheers from Romania.

@candidsniperdotcom Wedding photography, like all forms, is a business. Unless there is some other benefit to shooting it, I charge or expect compensation for all. Of course there are exceptions, but sure, I charge travel time – at a much lower rate mind you (as there is no editing resulting from that time!O.

SB900 overheats a lot for me.
